Teachers

Vanessa Graham Laramee, RECE

I teach in both the East and West rooms. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Toronto and I am a graduate of George Brown College’s Early Childhood Education program. I have two school aged children one of whom is a graduate of Creative Preschool and Young Explorers. I am a proponent of play based learning and giving children a place to grow at their own pace and be themselves.

Alison Heppner

I have been a teacher at the Creative Preschool for 25 years teaching the morning pre-school and the afternoon Young Explorers kindergarten classes.  For over 15 years I have also co-facilitated our parenting course based on the book “How to Talk so Kids will Listen and Listen so Kids Will Talk”.  My background and interests were in drama and I believe that this passion has assisted me in the classroom.  My children are both graduates of the pre-school and it I think being a parent at the school before being a teacher has given me insight into what parents want and need from our program.

Fany Ramos, RECE

I work Monday to Thursday in the West Room with both Preschool and Young Explorers.  I have been employed with the school since 2001. I am married and have two active young boys who are both hockey players.  When I get time away from taking the both boys to practices and games, I enjoy shopping, watching TV shows and movies, hanging out with my family and friends.

Carolina

Hello, I am Carolina. I’ve been with Creative for a few years now. Before Creative I was a teacher at was used to be Ms. Miriam’s nursery school on the Danforth and prior to that I was a stay at home mom for many years. I graduated with an ECE diploma from Seneca College and  back home, in Chile, I went to university to study Early Childhood Education and  worked there for 2 years before coming to Canada.

Many times, as I play with children and interact with teachers I find myself thinking…I wish I have found Creative many years back!

I am lucky to be part of this team!!

Rawia Hammad

Hi, I’m Rawia, a registered ECE. I hold a BA degree in early Childhood education and I enjoy working with all different age groups. I cherish the experience that I had, working overseas for 8 years in International schools. However, my 10 years of work at Creative Preschool have further broadened my experience in the field.

I admire many schools in education, however the Reggio Emilia approach is the closest to my heart. This philosophy is based on the image of the child as possessing strong potential for development who learns and grows in the relationships with others and who has 100 languages to express and create.

Paige McDowell, B.A. (Psychology & Applied Behaviour Analysis)

I completed my undergraduate degree at Mercyhurst University, in Erie Pennsylvania. Shortly after graduating I moved to Calgary Alberta where I worked at a preschool as a teachers assistant and behavioural aide for children with autism, fetal alcohol syndrome and developmental delays. I have been a part of the Creative Preschool team for almost two years. Here I work as an assistant as well as a resource teacher for our children with special needs. I am so happy to be a part of such an amazing program!

Tessie Burton, RECE

I have been working in the field of early childhood education since 1997 and have enjoyed all the joys and challenges that come with the job.  My personal early childhood philosophy is to follow the child and to see where their interests take me as a teacher.  I apply concepts from multiple early childhood philosophies (including Montessori, Waldorf and Reggio) and use them to enhance the holistic development of the children.  I was a CPS parent for two years while my daughter attended morning preschool and her time here had a very positive effect on her.
